Redgummy Records Presents: Debbie Neigher + Tidelands
“We met Debbie Neigher at Tiny Telephone Recording Studio,” explains Gabriel Leis of the San Francisco-based duo, Tidelands. ”She was recording her debut album there, and we were in the room next door, recording ours.”
A friendship was formed, Neigher and Tidelands played some shows together, and eventually they decided to kick off the“Redgummy Records Presents” series of split 7-inch vinyl releases together.
The record features Tidelands performing with Neigher on a Neigher song on Side 1 and Neigher performing with Tidelands on a Tidelands song on Side 2.
“For my song ‘Atoms,’ it made perfect sense to have the female perspective be voiced by Debbie,” says Leis. “For her song‘Smile,’ I took some production ideas from the St. Vincent record I’d been listening to at the time.”

With just the one rehearsal under their belts, Leis and Neigher returned to Tiny Telephone and recorded the tracks in one afternoon, helped greatly by the multi-instrumental dexterity of Leis’ Tidelands bandmate, Mie Araki, and bassist in Neigher’s band, Jessie Cafiero.
The tracks were produced by Ian Pellicci and artwork was completed by Diana Sudyka, who has previously created album art and posters for Andrew Bird and Crowded House among others.
“I’m hoping this is just the first in a series of ‘Redgummy Records Presents’ collaborations,” says Leis. “I’ve already got my eyes and ears on some unsuspecting great local songwriters that I’d like to work with next.”
